ASL 1020 - Beginning American Sign Language II3 sem hrs cr
A continuation of the study of the language of the American deaf. This course includes further study of the structure of the language and the mastery of an additional 400 signs. Prerequisite: ASL 1010
In rare and unusual circumstances, a course prerequisite can be overridden with the permission of the Department Lead for the discipline.

By the end of the course, students will be able to…
- communicate expressive, receptive, and affective interpersonal communication skills.
- demonstrate ASL communication skills by using ASL vocabulary, spatiality, nonmanual markers, and classifiers.
- display the practical skills and knowledge necessary for basic crosscultural interactions within the deaf community.
- apply the skills learned in the classroom to conversations within a crosscultural environment.
- accurately use a larger and more complex signing vocabulary. (I, II, III, IV, V)
- understand better the difficulties of living as a deaf person in a hearing culture.
