RELS 2030 - Religion and Society

3 sem hrs cr

This course will allow students to analyze the relationship between religions and the societies that they come into contact with, while also presenting students with society’s impact on religions. It will include the discussion of religion’s relationship with legal standards, social expectations, differing ideas of charity, and gender, amongst others.  Prerequisite: Exemption from or completion of ENGL 0810  and READ 0810 . Prerequisite or Corequisite: Enrollment in ENGL 1010  

In rare and unusual circumstances, a course prerequisite can be overridden with the permission of the Department Lead for the discipline.

  • demonstrate an understanding of the beliefs, practices, and histories of religious peoples.

  • analyze the ways an individual’s or group’s religious worldview informs personal behavior and a community’s relationship to the larger society/world.
  • examine and present the ways that religion has impacted societal changes, gender norms, traditions, class structures, and history.
