ECED 2385 - Math and Science in Early Childhood3 sem hrs cr
This course addresses standards, principles, and practices in teaching Mathematics and Science to young children ages birth to eight. The course emphasizes the methods in which educational practices and lessons can possess an integrated math and science curriculum that includes appropriate content, processes, environment, materials, and child-centered choices. Field experiences are required for the course. A background check will be required for observing in public schools. Prerequisite: ECED 2315 or ECED 2320
In rare and unusual circumstances, a course prerequisite can be overridden with the permission of the Department Lead for the discipline.

- explain how technology can be used within the universal design of learning to support the development of math and science in the curriculum.
- evaluate and reflect on science inquiry and math experiences for children using pedagogical content knowledge for math and science that results in a plan for modification of teaching practices.
- design effective culturally responsive teaching strategies for involving families in supporting math and science in young children.
