Associate of Applied Science Degree

Motlow State Community College (MSCC) offers a Nursing Major for those students desiring to pursue a career as a registered nurse by preparing individuals to be eligible to apply to take the National Council of Licensure Exam for the Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN). The nursing program provides students with learning opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking needed to meet the health care needs of the communities in which they will work. 

The MSCC Nursing Specific Program Outcomes:

  • Graduates are prepared to perform the graduate core competencies for Associate Degree nurses in the delivery of care. 
  • Graduates meet or exceed the state and national mean score on the NCLEX-RN. 
  • Graduates contribute to the supply of registered nurses in the MSCC’s eleven county service area. 

Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Specific Program Outcomes:

  • Performance on the NCLEX-RN exam:
    The three (3) year mean for the NCLEX-RN pass rate will be at or above the national mean for the same three (3) year period.
  • The annual NCLEX-RN pass rate for first time takers will be at or above 85% in the accordance with the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
  • Program completion:
    Sixty percent (60%) of student will complete the program within 150 percent of the program length.
  • Graduate Program Satisfaction:
    Eighty-five percent (85%) or greater of the graduates will express satisfaction with graduate preparation 6-12 months post-graduation (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Employer Program Satisfaction:
    Eighty-five percent (85%) of employers will express satisfaction with graduate preparation 6-12 months post-graduation (qualitative and quantitative).
  • Job Placement Rates:
    Eighty-five percent (85%) will be employed within 6-12 months post-graduation.

Note:


*NURS 1070 is a required NURS course that may be taken before acceptance into the nursing program. As a required NURS course, students must make a grade of C or higher. A grade of D or F in NURS 1070 will be counted as one failed attempt in a nursing course upon acceptance into the nursing program.
