PHED 2415 - Teaching Individual and Team Sports

Physical fitness is a journey and never really a destination. The focus of this class will be participating and learning about various individual and team activities that can be incorporated into an active lifestyle. Students will develop a basic knowledge and understanding of a variety of sports, games, and physical activities. Students will be given an opportunity to express prior knowledge while gaining a new understanding of strategies that will aid in developing a well-rounded approach to physical fitness through individual and team-related sports.

After completing this course, students will be able to…

  • identify the positive effects of physical fitness through individual and/or team play.
  • recognize, demonstrate, and execute the fundamental rules of a sports event.
  • develop a knowledge and understanding of the skills needed to perform an individual sport vs. a team sport.
  • create, maintain, and implement a physical fitness plan for the duration of the course.
  • describe the psychological and physiological effects of exercise.
  • identify the basic equipment.
