EVET 2230 - Battery Systems, Management, and High-Voltage Safety

3 sem hrs cr

Battery Systems, Management and High-Voltage (HV) Safety will cover the various types of battery technology that have been, are being, and may be used in the future electric/hybrid electric vehicles.  Battery management systems purpose and importance will also be covered.  Working with battery systems will be thoroughly covered along with the importance of using proper PPE to protect from electrocution and arc flash. Prerequisite: EVET 2120

In rare and unusual circumstances, a course prerequisite can be overridden with the permission of the Department Lead for the discipline.

Transfer (UT) or Non-Transfer Course (UN): UN

Master Course Syllabus
General Objectives

  • An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature

Specific Objectives

  • Explain the energy storage system design and how current battery technology is used in the system
  • Describe why the battery management system is important
  • Employ safety and electrical precautions
