EVET 1240 - Electrical and Chassis Control Systems

Electrical and Chassis Control Systems covers advanced transportation electronic systems including programmable logic controllers, computer control systems, telematics, high-voltage systems, navigation, collision-avoidance systems, and electronic accessories. Topics include theory, operation, diagnosis, service, and repair of starting, charging, lighting, airbags, power accessories, and various body computer control systems. The use of electronic service information, the proper diagnostic process, and proper diagnostic services tools are emphasized. Prerequisite: MECH 1310 , ENST 1300  

In rare and unusual circumstances, a course prerequisite can be overridden with the permission of the Department Lead for the discipline.

Master Course Syllabus
General Objectives

  • An ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve well-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the engineering design of systems, components, or processes appropriate to the discipline
  • An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in well-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature
  • An ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results

Specific Objectives

  • Operate Adaptive Cruise Control, Parking Assistant, and Start/Stop Function
  • Explain Driver Assist processes
  • Explain Lane Departure Warning process
  • Identify signs of electrostatic discharge
  • Perform specific cautions in handling pyrotechnic components
  • Handle air bags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and side curtain airbags properly
  • Use wire diagrams to identify faults
  • Understand and diagnose the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus using Onboard Diagnostic and Information System (ODIS) analytical systems
