Welcome from the President

It is my greatest honor to welcome you into the Motlow State teaching and learning community. For more than a half-century, Motlow State has been a life-changing catalyst for thousands of residents across its 11-county service area and beyond. I have the privilege to serve as your President, representing what I believe to be the most forward, progressive, and innovative college in Tennessee.

While here, you will be transformed in mind, attitude, and aptitude. This is the purpose of education. You will understand the power of learning, exploring, and creating, as well as the many, many responsibilities that accompany it. You will step out of what you know into what is possible. We believe that the future belongs to you.  Accountability, service before self, responsibility, collaboration, integrity, compassion, respect, excellence, and resilience will become the standards.

Your desire to learn has brought you here. As you step into or continue the 2026–2027 academic year, I challenge you to become the very best version of yourself each day. Lean into challenges. Forge ahead into the unknown. Inquire. Debate. Think. Doing so will lead you to greatness. What will become your standard shall emerge from your experiences here at Motlow State. You will see your life and learning change before your very eyes. You will evolve.

The Motlow mission is to transform lives, which is accomplished through student success and workforce development. Our student population is as dynamic as our communities. Traditional, adult, dual, and middle college students find a home at Motlow State. Students in need of specialized training and workforce development skills are integral to our mission and success. Beyond a first-rate cadre of faculty, you will be supported by a dedicated, student-centric staff who are available to support your Motlow State journey.

My final challenge to you is to endure this season of life. To endure, you will carry success with strength. You will keep your purpose clear and treat accolades as a responsibility. In doing so, you prepare yourself to all-but-guaranteed success. I look forward to seeing and speaking to you on campus. Make this year your best year! Welcome to Motlow State, where opportunity is always right in front of you!

Most cordially,
