Dear Students:

Let me be one of the first to welcome you to Motlow State Community College. If you are a new student, you are about to embark on one of the most exciting educational adventures of your life. If you are a returning Motlow student, you are already aware of the many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Whoever you are, Motlow College has a seat ready for you, and faculty and staff who are eager to get to know you by name.

Even though Motlow College is nationally recognized as one of the fastest growing community colleges in the United States, we have made it our mission to keep our classes small, our approach personal, and our advisement tailored to your needs. We care about our students as unique individuals, and we always seek to serve and educate our population–one student at a time.

Motlow students represent all ages and backgrounds. Some of our students have been home schooled from kindergarten through twelfth grade, while many others come to us as recent public school graduates. Many are university transfer students looking for a smaller school with a human touch. We also serve the unemployed or underemployed who wish to redirect their lives through education, and we even enroll retirees who are seeking new learning and interests to enrich this stage of their lives. Many of our students will transfer to universities or return to the workforce with refined skills and greater opportunities. Others will have the satisfaction of completing personal goals and continuing their lifelong learning.

As you page through this catalog, you will discover many programs of study, organized activities, athletic programs, and opportunities such as our very successful Study Abroad initiatives and our Honors Scholar program. Motlow just celebrated our 40th Annual Commencement in May 2010, with the largest graduating class in our history. We look forward to announcing your name and awarding your diploma at a future graduation ceremony.

We hope that all students who cross our doorways and walk our halls will remember one very important message: Motlow cares about you, your goals, your ambitions, and your pathways to higher education. We are glad you chose Motlow, and we pledge our support to you while you’re here. We will always assist you–one student at a time–in making your life and our world a better place.

Sincerely,

MaryLou Apple
